Lycra Unveils Trio of Innovative Spandex Technologies at Intertextile Shanghai

Lycra Company, based in Wilmington, Del., showcased three avant-garde additions to its 'Adaptiv' fiber technology line-up at the recent Intertextile Shanghai event. The debut encompassed Lycra Adaptiv Black fiber, Lycra Adaptiv Xtra Life fiber, and the distinctive Lycra Sheer Sensation technology.

Steve Stewart, Lycra's Chief Brand and Innovation Officer, proclaimed, "Adaptiv is not just another polymer; it’s a game-changer that sets new benchmarks for consumer wear." Highlighting the growing appetite for these innovations, Stewart mentioned, "The burgeoning demand, especially in the realms of activewear and swimwear, signals Adaptiv's potential to supersede traditional Lycra offerings."

Here's a closer look at these novel introductions:

  • Lycra Adaptiv Black: Geared primarily for the activewear and athleisure segments, this fiber comes equipped with formidable resistance against UV rays and sunscreen. This ensures garments retain their fit and functional essence over time. Moreover, it guarantees a rich, consistent black hue, eliminating any undesirable shine or luminance.
  • Lycra Adaptiv Xtra Life: Exclusively crafted for swimwear, this fiber boasts a longevity up to ten times its conventional spandex counterparts. Beyond its robustness, it's celebrated for the comfort it offers, adapting seamlessly to diverse body shapes. "With its inherent resistance to elements like sweat, UV, and even suntan lotions, this variant stands resilient against the typical wear and tear seen in beachwear and swim garments," Stewart pointed out.
  • Lycra Sheer Sensation: This technology addresses a longstanding consumer gripe – static cling, especially in sheer legwear such as tights and pantyhose. By incorporating anti-static properties directly within the fiber, it promises garments that not only repel cling but also offer undiminished comfort, fit, and performance. Moreover, the unique additive in the fiber ensures that anti-static benefits are retained even after multiple washes. Stewart anticipates this innovation to be particularly well-received in markets like China, where such legwear is a staple.

Parallelly, Lycra marked the Asia-Pacific introduction of its "Waste for Good" campaign at the Intertextile Shanghai. This sustainability thrust emphasizes circularity, spotlighting the company’s Coolmax and Thermolite EcoMade technologies derived from textile waste. Stewart expounded, "Beyond just leveraging pre-consumer textile remnants, our ambition stretches to reincorporating post-consumer garments into the fold. This endeavor underscores our belief in the endless possibilities of upcycling waste."

To cap off, Lycra's aspirations extend beyond the conventional practice of repurposing plastic bottles into clothing. The company's vision orbits around championing a genuine textile-to-textile economic cycle.
